We’re Bryan & Catherine, a husband & wife duo with a passion for real estate, design, and old homes. This blog is where we share our renovation progress, DIY projects, and other life happenings. Welcome!
A few years ago, we decided to make a big move from NYC to Columbus. We knew that renting an expensive small apartment, and dealing with crowded subways everyday was not going to work forever. We wanted to start creating something for ourselves, and although we didn’t know exactly what that something was, we knew NYC wasn’t the place for it. We decided on Columbus because Bryan grew up here, and we were intrigued by all of the development going on in the downtown area. We drove through many of the neighborhoods and admired the old houses, most of which were built in the early 1900s, and started dreaming about the things we could do here.
We purchased our first home, which was a single family home built in 1920 that had been remodeled in the 90s. We started the blog to share our progress with friends and family, and named it Beginning in the Middle because we wanted it to reflect our new adventure in the Midwest. We got our hands dirty with lots of DIY projects and small improvements, and through that process realized our mutual passion for design. Since we finished our first home, we’ve purchased and renovated half a dozen homes and have helped others renovate their spaces, too. Our work has been featured on Houzz, Apartment Therapy, House Beautiful, and Country Living, to name a few. We love what we do, and hope you do too!
